How to Record Skype Video Conference

Skype is one of the most popular free ways to chat, talk and video conference around the world. The video conferencing function is becoming more and more common as access to webcams and high-speed Internet has improved. But how to record a Skype video conference for later reference? There are two ways to do it, and both involve installing a free Skype plugin. In fact, it is surprisingly easy.

Instructions

1. Launch Skype and log in. You cannot install the required video conference recording plugin while offline. Set your status to "Invisible" if you wish not to be disturbed while installing the plugin.

 2. Click "Tools," "Extras," and "Get Extras" from the top menu bar in Skype. This opens the Extras Manager

 3. Type "record video" in the search box in the Extras Manager. Two plugins will appear: VodBurner Video Call Recorder and Supertintin Recorder for Skype. We will use the latter plugin.

4. Click the green button next to the Supertintin plugin to install it on your computer's hard drive.

5. Follow the installation wizard, choosing all the defaults for Supertintin. Plugin installation is now complete, and no restart is necessary. From now on, every time you start Skype, Supertintin will also start up in a separate window.

6. Click the red "Record" button whenever you are on a Skype video conference to record it to your hard drive.

Top 3 Free Video Conference Software

Top 3 Free Video Conference Software

Skype is so far the number 1 pick because it has a good balance between video and audio quality. However its fullscreen video quality could be better.

Video:  The video is realtime at about 30 frames per second. It is not jumpy but it is somewhat blurry at times.

Audio: The audio is very loud. The audio quality is also very good with very little to no feedback.

download : http://www.skype.com

Sightspeed has very good video quality at times. But the audio is not very good.

Video:  Sightspeed has the best video out of the programs reviewed. The video is realtime at about 25 frames per second. Sometimes the video has a ghosting effect for a few seconds. The video also pauses sometimes.

Audio: The audio is just ok. Sometimes it is choppy. At other times the audio gets very loud and then it goes very soft a few seconds later. There is also some audio feedback.

ooVoo is a pretty nice video chat application where you can chat with more than one person at a time. However it does have some bugs.

Video: The video is realtime at about 30 frames per second. The video is very clear but it is not full screen capable. After clicking some maximize buttons it finally fills almost half the screen. It would be nice if it were bigger. Also, the video looks good, but about every 30 seconds there is alot of garbage pixels on the screen covering peoples faces, but the garbage disappeared after about 5 to 10 seconds.

Audio: The audio is very clear. It doesn't sound robotic. However, the audio is very quiet. I would give the audio a better rating, but it needs to be louder.

Sony PCS-TL50 Review

Sony PCS-TL50 Review

All-In-One Model for Executives and Small Meetings

Bringing a new level of versatility and convenience to video conferencing, Sony Electronics is introducing the PCS-TL50 series, its first desktop video conferencing solution for executive personal communication and/or small meeting space usage. Providing an all-in-one conferencing package, the new system features a unique pan-tilt-zoom camera embedded in an attractive 20-inch wide LCD display that doubles as a PC monitor.
In addition to the embedded camera, the Sony PCS-TL50 includes an embedded codec, microphone and speakers to minimize desktop clutter and simplify set-up. A new user-friendly graphic interface assists in call execution, while a convenient remote control directs the camera.
"As video conferencing is becoming more mainstream in the business world, a convenient desktop solution is a logical step for us to make it easy for individuals or small groups to conduct a conference anytime and almost anywhere," said Hiroshi Okamoto, vice-president of conferencing solutions for Sony's Broadband Communications Products Division.
The Sony PCS-TL50 comes with both IP and ISDN connection capabilities. The system supports ITU-T standard H.264 to achieve television-like quality video on limited bandwidth, as well as high-quality audio through MPEG4 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC). The Data Solutions Box (PCS-DSB1) used with Sony group conferencing systems can also be used as a plug-in solution to share PC files over the call. An optional tabletop microphone is available, as well, to better accommodate multiple speakers, and optional multipoint capabilities that can accommodate up to six sites are also available for both IP and ISDN calls.
Like Sony's other conferencing systems, the PCS-TL50 offers such standard features as QoS (Quality of Service) technology including proprietary Adaptive Rate Control (ARC) and real-time Auto Repeat ReQuest (ARQ).
QoS technology will quickly "shrink" the bandwidth of the call to adjust for Internet congestion and implement automatic repeat of lost packets. The result is fewer interruptions and better performance while conferencing on the public Internet or on LAN/WAN networks.
Also standard is AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) to protect the security of private information discussed on a conference call.
Our factory-trained sales and technical staff install and support Sony PCS-TL50 projects across the country and around the world. As with the other video conferencing products we represent, IVCi provides clients with one point of contact for sales, service, management and support of the entire Sony video conferencing product line.

Paltalk Express (beta)

Paltalk Express (beta)

Paltalk, the highly flexible Internet-voice and video-chat ecosystem, can host thousands of global users at once in a single group video session. But its downloadable client, Paltalk Scene, is Windows-only, and that has left users of other operating systems out in the cold. The new Web-based Paltalk Express (currently in beta), is starting to change that. It makes many elements of Paltalk Scene, including group video chat, available on any computer with a browser that can support both Flash and Java. The cheapest version of the service is free, but chances are, if you like the service, you'll want to upgrade to one of the much more useful paid versions.

The voice conferencing and video-chat service hosts thousands of categorized, video-enabled chat rooms created by users. You'll find discussions on technology, sports, music, politics, religion, and much more, since users who have Paltalk Scene can easily create and moderate their own categories. Paltalk employees moderate the site as a whole, enforcing its terms and conditions. Paltalk Express doesn't currently let you create or moderate chat rooms, but a spokesperson for the company told me that functionality will be rolled into the next iteration of Paltalk Express.

A queue system organizes voice chat, giving everyone a chance to make a point. Users make comment requests during chat sessions and are allowed to take the floor in the order that their requests were received. Users can also interact with each other one-on-one via chat and video. The chat-room owner or admin has some control of the chats, however, and can, for example, disable a participant's mic.

In fact, the video-chat function is similar to that of the Web-based service Stickam, in which groups of individuals video chat in one room. Paltalk, however, works on a much larger scale—group video sessions reach into the thousands, as opposed to the low double digits at which Stickam maxes out. All users in a Paltalk group can display video from other users' webcams, with certain restrictions according to account type.

Specifications

Type
    Personal
Free
    Yes
OS Compatibility
Windows Vista, Windows XP, Linux, Mac OS

Paltalk Express Basic (the default option) is free, but limits your viewing of an individual's webcam to just 10 seconds per chat session (at 5 frames per second). After that, you can still hear but not see the person. The two fee-based plans take away that restriction and provide colored nicknames (those of Basic members show up in black). Plus members, who pay $8.95 per month, show up in blue, can stream up to six of their own webcams at a time, and view videos at 5 fps. Green (Extreme) members pay $14.95 monthly and can stream as many cams as they want, viewing each at a respectable 15 fps. For $60 annually, though, you get all the benefits of Extreme (including the frame rate), saving a fortune over the month-to-month plans. All versions of Express are completely banner free (Paltalk Scene isn't).

Once registered, you see a clean, responsive interface much like that of Paltalk Scene, with categorized groups that branch off into different topics. But Paltalk Express has a fresher appearance, thanks to its Flash underpinning, which allows subtle, smooth effects for buttons, menus, and tabs when you click on them. You can create a profile (via Paltalk People, a social-networking site à la Facebook) that others can see when they click on your username in Paltalk Express.

On my tests of the Basic and Extreme versions, the audio-video chat worked remarkably well (though of course, Extreme, at 15 fps, produces far better video than Basic and Plus, at 5 fps). In the group "PC Tech," I was able to view the moderators live on video as they displayed how to upgrade components in an aging PC. Members of the room could type or speak their queries as the sessions progressed. Bloggers, MySpace members, and Facebook users can easily embed a widget into their pages, enabling Paltalk Express chats.

Original programming plays a major role in Paltalk Express. Hosted shows feature live video chat sessions with celebrities, bringing interactive chat to an entirely new plateau. I tuned in to a live interview with William Shatner. Video and audio quality were good, and I was also able to view video from over 1,500 member webcams in the session. Other big-name chatters on Paltalk Scene have included Leonard Nimoy, David Duchovny, Stephen King, and JoJo.

Of course, since this is a beta release, there's still some work to be done. Right now, the features in Express are a subset of those you get with Scene. Unlike Scene, for example, Express doesn't allow private subgroup video chats within a chat session, nor does it let you create or moderate a chat room. You won't find the Skype-like PC-to-phone calling system, either. There's none of the interoperability with AIM, ICQ, and Yahoo! IM users that Paltalk Scene offers, either, though the company tells us it's coming soon.

Despite receiving these restrictions, but Paltalk Express lets you access the chat bigger the contents of the userand the content of interest itself, such as chats with celebrities live video Voice - chat capability is very good. And even though it is based on that you can participate in chats celeb True if you want video of any one person for more than 10 seconds at a time, you'll have to upgrade to plus or Extreme, but if you subscribe tothe plan. One year, $ 60 price tag is not outrageous subscription PLUS the people who want to try video chatfor a cheap way to make in a month. And for voice chat as a group, the basic version priced at $ 0, a good deal

GoToMeeting 4.1

GoToMeeting 4.1

With travel getting more expensive (and more harrowing) the competition has gotten fierce in the Web meeting space. While GoToMeeting remains a quick-and-easy way to Web conference, it lacks some features that competing products in the same price range have. Take for example, HearMe which offers videoconferencing as well as audio, or Microsoft Office Live Meeting's audience feedback tools or Cisco WebEx's file transfer. You also have services like Skype used in lieu of traditional conferencing software.

Citrix offers a 30-day free trial, and pricing begins at $49.00 a month or $468.00 for the annual plan. That gives you up to 15 meeting attendees, making GoToMeeting more expensive than Office Live Meeting which charges $4.50 per user per month. And GoToMeeting doesn't allow as many attendees as WebEx, with up to 25 participants (including the meeting host) for the same price. Citrix does offers a corporate version of GoToMeeting for up to 25 users, but its pricing is subscription-based and depends on a business's size and needs.

I am surprised by how feature-thin GoToMeeting remains. The omission of whiteboard, audience participation tools and file transfer features is more unclear than the lack of Webcam integration (how many of us really need to see who's on the other end of a business conference call?). It's not even a feasible argument that omitting these features keeps the price down, since comparably-priced Web conferencing solutions have them.

So why opt to use GoToMeeting over the competition? It has always been a hallmark of reliability in an area with little to speak of (if you've been in some of these meetings, you know what I'm talking about). Real-time performance between a host PC and attendees is virtually flawless, even when sharing an animation-heavy PowerPoint presentation. It remains an affordable, simple way to conduct online meetings with integrated audio, eliminating the need of a phone conferencing bridge. Plus, the latest version includes a few new features like multiple monitor support.

Install
The software is downloadable and barely takes two minutes to install. It took longer to setup the required account to access the site.

After installation, GoToMeeting asks if you want to create a meeting right then and there, schedule a future meeting, or cancel. A bright, orange flower with a 70's motif is placed in the System Tray. Use that to access a right-click menu to quickly setup, manage or join meetings.

Users do not have to purchase or sign up for a trial GoToMeeting account in order to attend a meeting. They can simply click on the provided link in an email from a meeting organizer. The link directs back to the GoToMeeting Website, where the necessary software for attendees gets downloaded. The install for both organizers and attendees is a snap. And the new integrated toll-free number means they can call in over the phone if they prefer that over VoIP audio.

An Introduction - Video and Chat

An Introduction - Video and Chat

With video conferencing people can interact as if they were talking face to face with both images and sound relayed in real time. This article is designed to guide you through the various options to arrive at the system type best suited to your purpose.

There are various types of videoconferencing; which is suitable for your application will depend upon the IT structure available and what it is that you actually want to achieve.
Video conferencing has in the past been relatively expensive, but prices are coming down and it is possible for anyone with a fast enough internet connection to operate a video conference.

Systems are available for hire, lease or sale.

Systems may be installed at all or any of the following: -

1. on the desktop PC
2. a dedicated video conference suite
3. mobile - for use when and where the need arises.

Each has various advantages and limitations which may be critical to your purpose.

Paradoxically it is far more critical that audio connections are maintained than the video. You may loose a video signal or it may be intermittent but the conference will still proceed - if you lose audio, nothing can be achieved (unless both parties are versed in sign language!)

Video speed for equipment is often shown as frames per second abbreviated as FPS.
In the UK video from most sources runs under the PAL standard which 25 frames per second - e.g. domestic VHS players. In the USA the system is NTSC which runs at 30 frames per second. video conference equipment commonly is specified as 15 fps or 30 fps. In layman's terms - 15 fps will be jerky, it shows every other frame, 30 fps is full motion video.

The higher the frame rate the greater the data load, so the faster the connection required.

A minimum requirement for full motion video and audio between two points is 768 Kbps.

This made up of:- an encoding rate of 384 Kbps (typically used) is selected. This is broken down into two parts -

* 64Kbps is for the audio
* 320 Kbps is for the video.

The resulting 384 Kbps stream is compressed and sent (from you - the source) to the remote point (the destination). Similarly a 384 Kbps stream is received from the remote point to you. Thus twice 384 Kbps in bandwidth is required.

If there is a lot of motion in the video, very little compression is achieved. If there is little or no motion in the video, the savings can approach 50%. It would, however, be foolish to design a system which relied on the participants being forced to remain static.

There are two types of video conferencing, each has sub-types.

1. Point to point - a live video / audio communication between any two locations.
2. Multipoint - links between a three or more locations

Point to Point (P2P)

Point to point - a live video and audio communication link between any two locations.

P2P - Application

Where the need is to communicate between two points only at any one time: -

* Two offices of the same company
* Yourself and a business partner company, e.g. Yourselves and a major supplier
* Senior management/ teams from two divisions - e.g. research and manufacture.

P2P - Use

* Virtual meetings on a one to one basis
* Project workgroup co-ordination of effort, live adjustment of data, drawings, documents or prototypes
* Virtual board meeting between two groups of people in specific locations - say 5 in one and 4 in another

P2P - Limitations

* Bandwidth required increases in proportion to the amount of data being exchanged.
* Audit trail of actions taken by whom with a timeline sequence often required.
* Extra equipment is necessary to show physical objects, using a visulaiser for say engineering parts

Point-to-Point Videoconferencing

Consider two video conference terminals (vct) that are connected to the Internet.

The vct and its associated peripherals allow the user to make a call to another client, send the local audio/video stream to the remote client, and hear/view the received audio/video stream on a local speaker/monitor that is connected to the vct.
Assume one user (the local user) uses a vct to call a user at a remote vct by entering the IP address of the remote vct. The clients setup a call between the stations following the specifications of the H.323 protocol. Once the call is setup, the clients exchange audio/video streams over the Internet. The point-to-point video conference continues until one of the users "hangs up" the call.

IP numbers are difficult to remember; some users have dynamically assigned (DHCP) IP numbers that can change every time they boot their system and problems in using IP addressing when different vendor systems are used.

The Gatekeeper

To alleviate the problem of IP dialing, the H.323 standard defines the use of a gatekeeper.

The gatekeeper is a system that connects to the Internet just like the client terminals. The IP address of the gatekeeper is configured into the client terminals and when the clients "power up", they communicate with the gatekeeper and transfer certain information to the gatekeeper that describes the vct.

When the clients register with the gatekeeper, they pass their IP numbers, H.323 alias, and H.323 extension to the gatekeeper where it is stored. This allows a local user to dial a remote user by entering the remote users H.323 extension in effect their video telephone number.

The local vct communicates the H.323 extension to the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper then checks to see if the remote client is registered with the gatekeeper, then sets up the call between the two clients.

Once the call has been setup, the audio/video streams flow directly between the clients over the Internet.

Multipoint

Live video and audio links between a three or more locations.
To handle this situation, the H.323 standard introduces the concept of a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU). The MCU can be thought of as a "video bridge". The MCU connects to the Internet and registers with the gatekeeper.

A MCU, depending on its design capacity, can handle a certain number of simultaneous video conferences each with each video conference being logically separate from the others and with each having a specified number of users.

When users want to join a particular videoconferencing session, they dial the service number/password combination. The gatekeeper checks to see if that service has been registered by a MCU. The gatekeeper completes the call by connecting the client to the specified video conference on the MCU.

Once the call has been connected, the client's audio/video stream is then sent over the Internet from the client to the MCU. Similarly, other clients connect to the session and send their audio/video streams to the MCU. The MCU selects one of the audio/video streams on the video conference and returns that audio/video stream to all of the clients (that is all except the client whose stream was selected).

There are several methods for selecting an audio/video stream. Audio switching and chairman control are two alternatives. Typically, the method that is chosen is audio switching where the MCU selects the stream that currently has active audio (someone is talking or is talking the loudest).

As the user(s) at one site stop talking and the user(s) at another site start to talk, they capture the MCU. The process is repeated with the video from the newly selected site now being sent to all the other sites.

Streaming

To participate in a H.323 video conference, users must have appropriate videoconferencing client terminals and have Internet connectivity with sufficient bandwidth to support the video conference.

Some users may not have these capabilities but would still like to be able to participate even if that meant that they could only see and hear conference participants but not be able to interact with them. (Watch and Listen)

Users can receive the stream using a browser on a computer. They enter the URL of the server, and the server starts the encoded audio/video stream over the Internet to the computer.
Plug-Ins for the browser exist that are capable of decoding both RealVideo and Windows media streams. The user can thus see and hear the participants in the streamed video conference in near real-time.

Alternatively, a user can connect to the server at a latter date and view the archived version of the video conference.

Where the use of video conferrence ?

Where the use of video conferrence ?

Video conferencing can be used in a host of different environments, which is one of the reasons the technology is so popular. General uses for video conferencing include business meetings, educational training or instruction and collaboration among health officials or other representatives. Thus far video conferencing has been used in the following fields:

- Telemedicine

- Telecommunication

- Education

- Surveillance

- Security

- Emergency Response

Advantages and Benefits of Video conferencing

Perhaps the biggest advantage or benefit video conferencing has to offer is the ability to meet with people in remote locations without incurring travel expenses or other expenses associated with face to face communication. Business meetings, educational meetings, healthcare conferences and more can all be easily conducted thanks to video conferencing technology. Individuals living in remote areas can also use video conferencing to keep in touch if you will, with the world at large.

More people are easily accessed and contacted using video conferencing. Because of this technology information and knowledge are often disseminated at more rapid rates, and collaboration between people occurs more willingly and freely. Students can take advantage of video conferencing to take classes at distant locations that would normally be unavailable. They can also take classes that will accommodate busy schedules.

Video conferencing can stimulate better brainstorming, knowledge sharing and information gathering. Businesses can use video conferencing to provide presentations to key members of an organization or to solicit new clients in a professional manner, regardless of their location. The possibilities for communication are virtually endless thanks to video conferencing technologies.

Video Conference Easy Start up !!

Video Conference Easy Start up !!

The First
,you have taken part in a video conference before or if you have not, there are a few basic essentials that you should know as more and more companies are leaning towards video conferencing. many people sometimes are a little bit confused as they may assume that video conferencing and video phone calls is the same thing. This assumption is actually false. Video phone calls were designed to just serve as a form of telecommunication between two people where as a video conference was designed to serve as a conference between many people at different locations.

The Second,As technology has advanced over the years, more and more companies are using a video conference in order to conduct very special and important meetings. A video conference saves these companies tons of money as well as time. With video conferencing, a company does not have to spend additional fees on travel where as in the past a large expense for companies used to be travel related in order to get employees to important meetings. Video conference is also a great resource for last minute emergency meetings for companies with several locations. This resource will allow for everyone to join in on a meeting without having to travel.

Now there are two different types of video conference systems. The first type of video conference system is a dedicated system. A dedicated system contains all of the required components of the system ll packed in to one piece of equipment. This piece of equipment is typically a console with a very high quality remote control video camera. The camera can be controlled from a distance and is capable of panning in many different directions as well as it is capable of zooming. Omni-directional microphones are connected to the system in order to transmit voices. Along with microphones televisions monitor and loud speakers may be hooked up to the system.

Finally,The other type of conferencing is the desktop system. This system is just what is sounds like as it is basically your desktop computer. Now your desktop computer will most likely have all of the components needed for a successful conference, however if your desktop computer does not have these components they may be easily added. These components basically include a microphone as well as speakers. Your monitor will be used to view the other participants as well as documents for the meeting. With a video conference you are able to attend a meeting anywhere in the world.
